THE HEART OF ARA – GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
The ARA Group has been in business for almost 12 years. Starting from just an idea and a blank piece of paper, two visionaries, Edward Federman and Leo Browne, put their ideas to work. ARA has since evolved into a strong organisation with over 1,100 employees, five facility service divisions, offices nationwide and thousands of clients.
The ARA Endowment Fund was established in June 2009 as a permanent way to provide financial support for communities on a continuous basis and in a meaningful way. There is now $325,000 in the Endowment Fund. The annual earnings from the Endowment Fund will be given to registered Australian charities. Staff from ARA Group offices around the country will have the opportunity to recommend charities in their community.
Over the last few weeks, we visited Bear Cottage and Taronga Zoo; two organisations that benefit from the ARA Group’s commitment community support. For several years the ARA Group has provided Bear Cottage with pro-bono facility management services.
Bear Cottage is a place where children with terminal illnesses and their families can stay from time to time and receive rest and medical care in a home-like environment. In addition to providing respite and end of life care, Bear Cottage runs a number of other programs aimed at supporting the entire family.
Bear Cottage is located in Manly, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and is designed as a large family beach home. Families do not pay for any Bear Cottage services and all operating expenses are raised entirely through community donations.
The ARA Group is a Champion Sponsor of Taronga Zoo and a Champion Sponsor of Taronga Zoo’s Emu enclosure. The ARA Group’s sponsorship provides support to the Taronga Foundation’s conservation program.
